I'm Ledly Jennings, an estate planning attorney based in Arkansas and the owner of L. Jennings Law. My work helps families and business owners think clearly about wealth, responsibility, and the long-term impact their decisions will have on the next generation. Here's what has my attention right now.

Coordinating the pieces of a family's financial life

Early in my career I noticed something troubling: most estate plans don't fail because the documents were drafted incorrectly. They fail because the planning around them never happens. The attorney drafts a will, the CPA files the returns, the advisor manages the investments, and too often those professionals never coordinate. Lately I've been writing about the intersection of estate planning, tax strategy, and long-term financial planning, including what really replaced the stretch IRA after the SECURE Act. Bringing those pieces into alignment is where I spend much of my time.

Designing trusts that give permission, not prescriptions

One of the best things a good trust does is give permission. A trust is only as tax-efficient as the person managing distributions, so the document needs to allow flexible decisions as the tax law and the beneficiaries' circumstances change, rather than locking in an outcome that may not fit the next generation. I've been thinking and writing a lot about this, from dynasty-style generational wealth planning to the old rule against perpetuities, and how families can structure trusts that still work decades from now.

Protecting families before the hard moments

A lot of my recent work is about the planning families wish they had done sooner. I've written about why a revocable living trust won't protect a home from Medicaid and the long-term care planning that actually does, and about estate planning for young families, where naming guardians, avoiding probate, and building a lasting legacy matter just as much as taxes. My goal is simple: help families make wise decisions today that will still be working decades from now.

Faith as the foundation

My faith and Christian worldview shape everything I do. I see sound stewardship of assets not just as good planning but as a calling, and I integrate faith-based principles into the financial decisions I help families make. I was recently honored to be named one of the 2026 AMP Influencers of the Year by Arkansas Money and Politics, a recognition that means the most to me because it reflects the values that guide my practice.
